Haifa Wehbe reveals plans to enter U.S. music market

(LOS ANGELES, CA) — After releasing her first-ever English music video in April, Lebanese superstar Haifa Wehbe revealed plans to enter the U.S. music market with two additional English songs.

Haifa is planning partnerships with R&B singer Ne-Yo and Moroccan-born rapper French Montana for her new songs, “Habibi” and “Snake Charmer.”

Her first English music video, “Breathing You In,” pulled in a whopping 7.6 million views on YouTube.

“For me its about taking risks – lots of them,” Haifa told Entertainment Scoop. “I want to continue to push myself to do things that are outside of my comfort zone.”

“Breathing You In” featured a provocative Haifa flaunting around Jennifer Lopez’s ex-lover, Casper Smart. In June, celebrity tabloids revealed an alleged scandal between Haifa and Casper.

In Touch Magazine said a source told them Haifa and Casper began a “secret affair” that lasted until the spring.

“J-Lo saw texts between Casper and Haifa, that’s how she uncovered the affair,” the source is quoted by In Touch Magazine. “She became possessive and controlling, she was furious and forced him to sever all ties with Haifa.”

Haifa did not respond to the allegations, but admitted to being an “easy target” for controversy.

“The world is changing and people are ultimately frightened by the unknown so they lash out and I regrettably am an easy target,” Haifa said. “I work at not taking it personal because the issues are much bigger than me.”

“Breathing You In” was directed by Dubai-based businessman and film producer Tarik Freitekh. The music video was shot in Las Vegas in studios previously used by the likes of Shakira, Snoop Dog, and Justin Bieber.

BREAKING: Lebanon elects a new president

(BEIRUT, LEBANON) — Lebanon’s parliament made a shocking decision on Wednesday to elect nationwide icon Haifa Wehbe as the country’s new president.

“This is a historic day in Lebanon,” said Prime Minister Tammam Salam during a press conference outside of the Parliament building in Beirut. “We are confident that Haifa will restore trust in Lebanon’s presidential position.”

Lebanon has been without a president since Michel Sleiman’s term expired on May 25, 2014. Parliament members failed to reach quorum in all 20 rounds of voting since May.

But today’s decision comes at a surprise for many Lebanese citizens who were already acclimated to life without a president.

“It really doesn’t matter to us,” said Jacques Shaheen, owner of a Beirut-based flower shop. “If we cared, we would’ve protested and launched a revolution, but we’re simply fed up with the system.”

But political leaders say Lebanon’s new president will introduce policy reforms that will restore patriotism in the Mediterranean country.

“Wehbe will bring a lot of excitement to Lebanon’s political system,” said Walid Joumblatt, leader of the Progressive Socialist Party. “I’m very pleased with parliament’s decision to bring beauty and brains to Lebanon’s head of state.”

Haifa is widely recognized for her sex appeal as a former singer and actress. But this new position as president of the Republic of Lebanon will bring new diplomatic duties for the global leader.

Haifa hosted a press conference outside of the presidential palace in Baabda earlier today, where she unveiled her political platform for her presidential term.

“I promise to ‘boos’ all the ‘wawa’s’ in Lebanon’s political system,” Haifa said. “I will begin by terminating “The Sisters” TV show on LBC because there’s no doubt that I’m the only Lebanese woman that matters.”

When asked by the press if she qualifies for this position, Haifa replied: “I was ranked 8th in the Top 99 Most Desirable Women. What more qualification do you need?”

Haifa Wehbe’s sister unveils controversial new photos

(BEIRUT, LEBANON) — Lebanese diva Haifa Wehbe is not the only face of the family who raised eyebrows in recent months. Haifa’s step-sister Rola Yamout is causing controversy after publishing semi-nude photos on her Facebook and Instagram profiles.

Yamout, who has faced scrutiny in the past for her public quarrels with Haifa, is pursuing what seems to be a desperate career in provocative modeling.

One of Yamout’s dresses in her latest collection of photos have similar cuts to Haifa’s controversial dress during a Star Academy performance last year.Rola Yamout sister of Haifa Wehbe Lebanese Arab superstar singer

In a September post on Instagram, Yamout called her step-sister a “grandmother,” and accused her of being jealous.

“Every time I appear and succeed in my simple ventures, the grandmother struggles (to fight back) with psychological, social, legal, economic and media wars,” Yammout posted on Instagram in Arabic.

Wehbe and Yamout reportedly have had a rocky relationship over the years and terms of reconciliation have not been successful.

Yamout previously said: “Who’s Haifa anyway?…She treats me like an enemy and not like a sister. I ask of her to have some decency, and to leave me alone to live my life.”

According to media reports, Wehbe has reportedly filed lawsuits in the past accusing Yamout of defamation.

VIDEO: Haifa Wehbe shocks Arab world with revealing dress

(BEIRUT, LEBANON) — Lebanese superstar Haifa Wehbe shocked the Arab world on Thursday when she wore a revealing dress during a talent show performance on Arab Star Academy.

Haifa, who is 38 years old, appeared on a live episode, flaunting a tight-fitting black dress with revealing sheer panels.

More than two million people watched the seductive performance and many women took to social media to criticize Wehbe for her racy choice of outfit.

Most of the negative reactions on social media came from women in Egypt, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia.

“They think if women dress this way it would misrepresent our culture,” said Dana Khairallah, a Lebanese lifestyle blogger, in an interview with BBC. “I find that hypocritical. I see Arab girls dressing more provocatively in clubs but no one cares because there are no cameras.”

The Egyptian channel CBC, which airs the Star Academy TV show, issued an apology on its channel for the star’s appearance on the show.

Wehbe herself blamed the stage lighting in a tweet, saying the original dress appeared more modest but that she “was surprised that it looked very different with the strong lighting on the stage.”

Haifa Wehbe takes the ice bucket challenge

(BEIRUT, LEBANON) — Despite Lebanon’s water crisis, more Lebanese celebrities took on the ALS ice bucket challenge this week, including pop icon Haifa Wehbe.

Others, like Nancy Ajram, said they would rather pass and instead support ALS by donating money.

“I would like to tell everyone who nominated me for the Ice Bucket Challenge to withdraw the nomination,” said Ajram. “I would rather donate instead, that way I’ll be relieved.”

The challenge began as a viral fundraising campaign by the ALS Association. Participants can either film themselves dumping a bucket of ice water over their heads and pass on their nomination or instead donate to the organization.

So far, the campaign seems to be successful in raising funds with the ALS Association saying that as of Wednesday they had received $31.5 million in donations compared to $1.9 million during the same time period last year.

Top Egypt censor quits after Wehbe film pulled

CAIRO: The head of Egypt’s censorship board has resigned in protest at a decision to pull Lebanese star Haifa Wehbe’s latest movie, which has been criticised for scenes deemed sexually provocative.

On Wednesday evening, Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab ordered “Halawet Rooh” (Beauty of the Soul) not to be screened until the censorship board reviews it again.

Revealing clothes worn by the pop and film star in the movie, sexually explicit movements and scenes featuring a young boy fascinated by her have stirred harsh criticism.

The censorship board head, film-maker Ahmed Awad, announced his resignation late Friday on the privately owned television channel CBC Two, saying he stood by his decision to allow the film to be shown.

The Egyptian-made movie, said to have been inspired by Monica Bellucci’s 2000 hit “Malena”, was released nationwide on April 3 for adults only audiences.

“I took the decision to allow the movie: I stand by it and I bear complete responsibility,” Awad said.

“The state has another opinion – they canceled our decision and withdrew the production”, he added, saying he was not consulted.

“Like any other self-respecting official, I presented my resignation.”

The plot revolves around Rooh, played by Wehbe, who ignites passions among men in her neighbourhood when her husband is away.

Independent newspaper Al-Masry al-Youm lashed out at the movie in a review headlined: “Halawet Rooh: how to produce an Egyptian porn movie.”

And Egypt’s National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, a government body, said the film posed “a moral danger” which could impact “public morals negatively”.

It praised Mahlab’s order as “responsible and wise”.

One media commentator saw possible sinister connotations in the ban.

“The one who bans a movie because he thinks it breaks morals will ban a movie” tomorrow for political reasons, television host Ibrahim Eissa said.

Raunchy Haifa Wehbe film pulled from UAE cinemas

The National Media Council (NMC), the UAE body tasked with approving films for cinematic release, on Thursday said that they haven’t asked for the suspension of Arabic film Halawet Al Rooh in the UAE.

The film released in 28 cinemas the UAE on April 10 and this week was the third most-watched film in the country, with four-day weekend admission of 26,453, according to statistics from local film distributors. A spokesperson for Vox Cinemas on Thursday told tabloid! the film was pulled from UAE screens on Thursday morning, saying it was banned after censors viewed it for a second time. The film is distributed by Gulf Film, who have not made any comment as yet.

“We didn’t confiscate it or withdraw the film after eight days of its release. Maybe the distributors made that decision. You should ask the producers or distributors of that film,” said Juma Obaid Al Leem, director of the Media Content Tracking Department at the NMC. However, he added that he had received several complaints about cinemas not respecting the 18+ rating issued by NMC.

“We heard that some cinemas were allowing people under 18 years of age to watch the film and that they were not obliging or respecting our rating. So we checked and gave them instructions to strictly adhere to it and had meeting with them about it,” said Al Leem. When asked which local cinema had flouted rules, he declined to name them.

The film, the title of which translates to Beauty of the Soul, is said to have been inspired by Monica Bellucci’s 2000 hit “Malena”, and revolves around Rooh, played by dark-haired pop star Wehbe, who ignites passion among the men in her neighbourhood when her husband is away.
